The hemp plant, also called cannabis or marijuana, is an ancient plant that was used for various purposes in ancient times.
Nevertheless, it was demonized for many years because of its psychoactive effects. Nowadays, however, it is slowly making a comeback and more and more care products or foods made from hemp are available on the market and some countries even prescribe medical cannabis to patients or legalize the private use of this plant.
Is this development perhaps just a trend or is the hemp plant as valuable and healing for us humans as many claim?
First of all, it is important to understand that hemp is not the same as marijuana.
As with many other plants, there are numerous varieties and types of this plant that differ in their properties and therefore have different areas of application.
On the one hand, there is so-called industrial hemp or CBD hemp, which does not contain THC and therefore does not have an intoxicating effect. This type of hemp is used to make paper, rope, care products, food and oils, among other things.
A completely different type of hemp is THC-containing hemp, which is used for smoking or baking due to its psychoactive effect. In contrast to industrial hemp or CBD hemp, the consumption of this type of hemp triggers a state of intoxication in the consumer and is therefore referred to as a drug, marijuana.
The hemp plant itself is therefore very versatile and should not be labelled as a harmful drug from the outset.
It is clear, however, that regular consumption of THC-containing, i.e. psychoactive, hemp, especially if it is smoked or mixed with tobacco, is harmful and not recommended.
It is also certain, however, that both industrial hemp and psychoactive hemp can have many advantages for us humans.
Industrial hemp and CBD hemp can be used for the production of high-quality paper, rope or clothing, making it a good alternative to other raw materials. Industrial hemp is also very undemanding to grow and does not require much fertilisation, irrigation or the use of pesticides. In addition, it improves the quality of the soil and could, for example, be used as an alternative to petroleum and prevent the clearing of forests. Foods such as hemp seeds, hemp protein powder, hemp oil, etc. can also supplement our diet and thus promote our health. Hemp is an ideal source of protein and contains all essential amino acids. The plant also contains plenty of antioxidants and, above all, vitamin B2, which is otherwise mainly obtained from animal products. A comparatively good fatty acid ratio also makes hemp unique and gives it a strong anti-inflammatory effect. The plant also contains the rare so-called "gamma linolenic acid", which a large part of the population lacks. Hemp can therefore prevent diseases such as arthritis, neurodermatitis and various skin diseases and also supports the detoxification of the body.
The flowers of industrial hemp, which are processed into so-called CBD oils or teas, can also help with numerous complaints.
These have a calming, sleep-inducing, pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic effect, etc. and can be used effectively for complaints or illnesses with corresponding symptoms. CBD hemp can also help with nervousness or anxiety disorders without causing a high.
But even if many people still don't want to admit it, THC-containing hemp can also have a positive effect on health if consumed and dosed correctly. For example, THC has a euphoric, calming, antispasmodic, pain-relieving, anti-inflammatory effect, etc. and, according to numerous studies, can help in the treatment of Parkinson's, epilepsy, autoimmune diseases, multiple sclerosis, sleep disorders, eating disorders, Alzheimer's, nausea, stress, psoriasis, menstrual cramps, spasticity, Tourette's syndrome, as well as almost all inflammatory and pain-causing diseases.
The cannabinoids contained in hemp can also inhibit the growth of tumor cells and promote their death.
When using THC-containing hemp, however, it is very important to observe the correct dosage and type of consumption in order to avoid unwanted side effects such as damage to the respiratory tract, addiction or psychological impairment.
Even though opinions about this plant often differ, there is no doubt that industrial and CBD hemp can have a positive impact on our health and the sustainability of our world in many ways and that THC hemp can also significantly improve the quality of life of many sick people.
It is therefore important that we abandon our prejudices towards this plant so that we can benefit from its valuable and healing properties.
