Fasting, i.e. abstaining from food, has been a universal remedy since time immemorial and an essential component of holistic health, the positive effects of which have been proven by numerous studies.
In recent years in particular, so-called "intermittent fasting", in which people normally abstain from food for several hours on a regular basis, has become increasingly popular.
The process of fasting has always been anchored in human nature and is indispensable for our health. The term "breakfast" - in English: "Break-Fast", as the name suggests, means "breaking the fast" and alludes to fasting during sleep at night.
Why abstaining from food is so important for our health and well-being is described below:
Our body and mind only function at their best when the stomach is empty. If the stomach is full of food, a large part of our available energy flows into digesting the food.
As a result, certain thought processes, concentrated, creative but also physical work can be carried out much more poorly with a full stomach than with an empty one. Many addictions can also be cured in the long term simply by abstaining from food.
On a mental level, fasting from food leads to clarity and stability.
In addition, without food, our body has the opportunity to eliminate accumulated harmful things. This means that during the time in which we do not feed our body, inflammation in the body subsides all by itself, the body rejuvenates, fat is burned, the immune system, blood pressure and blood sugar levels are regulated, new nerve cells are formed, sick body cells are recycled and harmful substances are detoxified.
These healing processes begin after about 8-16 hours without food intake, which is known as "autophagy". In a well-known type of intermittent fasting (16/8), you fast for 16 hours and only eat within 8 hours. This allows the body to recover and free itself of harmful burdens.
Our body is therefore able to heal itself completely by itself if we give it the opportunity to do so. However, if the body is constantly busy digesting food, it does not get the opportunity to do all the important tasks it is designed for and over time more and more harmful things accumulate, which ultimately leads to illnesses that have to be treated with external substances and medication because we did not give our body the chance to tackle these things itself in time.
Fasting, abstaining from food, is therefore an indispensable method for our holistic health to regenerate body and mind and has numerous positive effects on personal well-being.
